The Fighter

Ever since I got over the whole "Good guy always has to win" phase in my movie watching experience, inspirational movies never really appealed to me. I would always think, "Hmmmm, well at first he sucks at a certain sport and he gets all sad.... and then he wants to get better.... so he does.... wins everything.... happy happy joy joy. THE END". But, after recently watching the new film, "The Fighter", it appears as though I have to give this genre another looking over.

The Fighter is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Not so much because of the premise surrounding it, but because of the superb acting and amazing cinematography. Mark Walberg obviously gets a lot of credit for his performance, but what I was most impressed with was the job done by Christian Bale. If any of you have a friend or loved one who has been or is a crack addict, you truly appreciate the role Bale plays in this movie. All of his mannerisms down to the most minute tick are simply spot on.... makes me wonder if he smoked a little bit to get into character before filming ;)

And my God, was the cinematography outstanding in this film. What impressed me most were the fight scenes (obviously) and the documentary scenes. In the fight scenes, the film was recorded as though you were actually watching a legitimate fight on television (not from the normal and overly used perspective of "being in the ring"). What made this effect even more entertaining was the film lens or effect they used on the camera in order to make it look as though you were watching it back in the 80's.

To be honest, I feel like I'm butchering the movie the way I'm describing it, but, I promise you, The Fighter is an outstanding movie that everyone should at least give a chance!

  10. I didn't like The Fighter very much. Seeing Christian Bale in that state kind of set me off. Like a trigger for depression. He was a great actor, no doubt, but you see this guy as a hero in one movie, and the next he is sort of an asshole haha.
